SOLAR ENERGY PRODUCTION AT THE GANDIA CAMPUS

There is a new solar energy production facility at the Universitat Politècnica de València’s Gandia campus. The photovoltaic installation is located on the roof of the G1A Building of the Higher Polytechnic School of Gandia. It is made up of 90 panels with a unit capacity of 545 Wp and a 50 kW nominal power inverter, achieving a peak power of 49.1 kWp. The expected production of the new facility is around 74,200 kWh per year.

UPV INNOVATION

UPV contributes to the innovation of companies and other entities of our society. With this purpose, the institution trains people with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit in its teaching centers, generates knowledge and technology that it transfers to society and the socioeconomic environment from its research units.

LIVING LAB

UPV Living Lab – decarbonization scenarios, a prospective workshop that projects the participant to a hypothetical scenario of climate neutrality located in 2040, to reflect on an initial narrative based on four different models of decarbonization. Based on these scenarios, imagine different university models.

SDG 7. Affordable and clean energy

States around the world are placing at the center of their policies the issue of the necessary and urgent energy transition toward a new energy model based on efficiency and non-pollution. Universities must adequately manage the energy they need and consume, encouraging autonomy and the consumption of “green energy”. This SDG is highly interrelated with most of the environmental SDGs, especially SDGs 11, 12 and 13. Likewise, guaranteeing access to energy contributes to the eradication of poverty (SDG 1) and inequality (SDG 10), and requires new, more democratic and participatory management models (SDG 16).

SDG 9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Investments in infrastructure are essential for social and economic development. Transport, energy, telecommunications, industry, health services, education, etc. require appropriate, sustainable, and resilient infrastructures, capable of supporting needs, adapted to physical and human contexts.

The university fosters regional, national or international innovation systems aimed at providing solutions to the most pressing social problems, with a significant impact on the quality of life of people.

The university is also a key player in the generation, dissemination and use of knowledge that influences the production and transfer of knowledge for development. In addition, it is a fundamental dynamizing agent of industry and the productive sector.

SDG 10. Reduced inequalities

Within the university framework, as indicated in SDG 1, guaranteeing equitable access for all people to Higher Education is a powerful tool in the fight against poverty and inequality. We are focused on the university’s actions to promote access to Higher Education for especially disadvantaged groups, such as people with disabilities, ethnic and cultural minorities, the elderly, etc.

We have excluded data related to people with scarce economic resources, as well as gender inequality, because they were included in SDGs 1 and 5, respectively.

SDG 11. Sustainable cities and communities

Making our cities and communities inclusive, safe, sustainable and resilient spaces entails economic, cultural, environmental implications, etc. that are related to public investment in basic services and infrastructure, as well as democracy, participation, citizen awareness.

Universities are like small cities made up of a community of people who live together and who require a political, social and economic administration for the provision of services and proper performance.

In this case, emphasis has been placed on measuring the actions of universities to promote and preserve cultural and natural heritage on and off campus, including issues related to sustainable mobility, promotion of cultural initiatives, art, heritage, etc.
