UPV Sustainability
This website contains and mirrors initiatives developed by the university community and reflect the Universitat Politècnica de València’s commitment to sustainability. The website cross references data that can be isolated, compared and also linked to training, research and service actions. Polyphonic data organized around the 5 spheres of the SDGs (the 5 Ps —Planet, People, Prosperity, Peace and Partnerships).
“Urgent action is needed to address climate emergency to save lives and livelihoods“.
Given this recommendation of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13. Climate Action, UPV strives to lead the ecological transition toward carbon neutrality, reducing negative impacts and committing to regeneration. This implies changes in organizational systems, the acquisition of new habits and research into technologies that help us in this mission. This mission is led by the UPV’s Environment Unit and the Green Transition Area.
“Inclusive and sustained economic growth can drive progress, create decent jobs for all people and improve living standards.”
In line with this definition of SDG 8. Decent work and economic growth, UPV strives to be a benchmark in terms of economic sustainability. For this reason, UPV works to have stable sources of financing that guarantee its autonomy, and promotes the employability of students through the different programs of the Integrated Employment Service.
“Improve development cooperation to provide sufficient means to developing countries, by implementing programs and policies aimed at ending poverty in all its dimensions“.
The Universitat Politècnica de València, through the Center for Development Cooperation (CCD) and the Social Action and Volunteering Area, supports and encourages the university community’s participation in university cooperation activities for development, while fostering attitudes of solidarity and associating UPV with the group of actors in the international development cooperation system (NGDOs, public administrations and international organizations)..
Sustainability implies a balance between caring for the environment, economic strength and improving people’s social situation. However, in addition to these three, we must not forget the fourth element —culture.
“Culture has significant power to bring about the transformative change needed to achieve the SDGs. Culture is part of our being and shapes our ways of life”. (REDS, 2021. Hacia una cultura sostenible.)
With this balance UPV also strives to be a benchmark in higher education, research and institutional behavior. The university’s greatest impact comes from the training it offers to the young people who will shape the future. It is essential that each student completes their university stage having acquired the skills and knowledge that enable them to promote a positive transformation in their environment.
